A Key To Making The Right Decisions

Colossians 3:15 NLT

“And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful”

Decisions are a part of every single one of our daily lives. They range from trivial - like deciding what creamer we want in your morning coffee  - to way more weighty and complex - like choosing our spouse, college and career. Every decision, no matter the size, has the ability to dictate the trajectory of our life. The small decisions add up and the big decisions have big consequences.

God, in His infinite wisdom and care for us as His children, has not left us unequipped. We were His great idea that He knit together so uniquely in our mother’s womb. He knew every day would hold decisions and He also knew that with the free will He enabled us to have, we would need some help to make the right ones. There is a key in the scripture above that will unlock the ability to make the right decisions every time.

Peace. So much more than just a feeling - peace is a decision making tool in our supernatural toolbox that so many Christians don’t even realize the magnitude of. We are taught in the book of Colossians that peace is to rule in our hearts. Another version gives the word picture of peace being an umpire - someone who calls the shots and determines the difference between right and wrong. Coupled with the word of God, this fruit of peace can ensure that we don’t ever “miss it” when it comes to the will of God. Because of its supernatural nature (being a characteristic of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit) - peace does not take its cues from whatever is happening in the natural. It is totally dependent on God. That means that sometimes the decision you need to make, may in the natural look bizarre, but the presence of an overwhelming peace in your heart will ensure you’ve heard from the heart of God.

At a crossroad in your life and need to make a decision? Ask God for His peace to be an umpire - for it to be in place for the right decisions and totally missing for the wrong. Just as loudly as peace speaks, the lack of peace does too. You never have to “miss it.” You can make the right decisions every time. Be led by peace today!
